If your TBR is getting way out of control and you're not anywhere close to checking out your long list of options. You should read this.
Reading can be hard with a busy schedule, activities are always in ambush to take our time but squeezing and intentionally making time to get into books can be rewarding.
These tips will help you read more
Make it regular
If you've read compound effect by Darren Hardy, you'll know straight what I'm talking about. Integrate reading into your daily routine. It could be in the mornings or evenings, during a lunch break, during a free period, or before bedtime.
The compound effect is the strategy of reaping huge rewards from seemingly insignificant actions. So, it could be 10 or 20 pages a day and when you do the math you'll know it's worth it.
Prepare a reading list
When you write down goals, you're halfway through achieving them, at least you've figured out what you want to do. Spontaneity will not help you on this mission to read more because you wouldn't always be moved by a mere feeling to take action.
Remember the famous quote that says, "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail". Make a list of the books you want to read and begin, this will also help you track progress.
Create your reading haven
Shield yourself from distractions. Create a comfortable space inside or outside your home with all the gems that you'll need for reading. A notepad, pen, highlighters, sticky notes, good lighting, coffee or juice, comfortable clothes, a chair, and a table or a mat.
Whatever would make your reading interesting since reading should be no torture. A reading-friendly environment would help you read more as well as prepare your mind for the purpose.
Listen to audiobooks
Someone might say, 'but this ain't reading...' oh come on, the mode of input is just different. Here, you're using your ears instead but the thoughts and ideas from the book would still be processed by your brain. This can be helpful when combining activities such as exercising, cooking, walking, gardening, and so on. Listening to an audiobook will help you up your game.
Go for reading dates
If you have a flair for adventures then you can go on reading dates with a buddy or without one. You can pay for a spot in your favorite place and just relax and enjoy a book or where there's no payment at all. It could be a coffee shop, a garden, at the beach, on the moon (hehe), or a summer house, just a getaway with your books.
Going with a friend or friends can spice up the experience. If you're going to read more, you'd have to enjoy it.
BONUS TIP: Always have a book in your bag, at hand, or on your phone, so whenever you get a chance, you take it. You should have a book if you're going to read anyway. Always in your face!
