The quality of our minds is very essential for progress. We can't perform beyond the capacity of our minds, to constantly move upwards, the mind has to be transformed per time.
What is a belief?
A belief is something that you hold as true, your perception of things.
Beliefs begin to form in the early stages of our lives. They are usually formed based on environment, what you heard, observed, and experienced, and also the conclusions drawn from the experiences.
Most times these beliefs are limiting and untrue but due to the fact that the brain requires beliefs for everyday functioning, beliefs are often created consciously or unconsciously.
These beliefs are also often reinforced consciously as well as unconsciously because of the need to hold onto certain prerequisites for living. They are live road maps for navigating through life.
Some people's road maps are negative and contradictory to their needs and the desires they want out of life. Re-examining the experiences that may have created your belief system is important if you want to change or improve your beliefs. You begin to alter your beliefs when you begin to take control of your thoughts.
- How did this belief come about?
- Is this what I truly believe or was this adopted from someone?
- Is this belief helpful?
- How has this belief affected my life?
- Will this belief help me accomplish.....?
- What beliefs are true about this situation?
Ask yourself questions that will help you reexamine your beliefs and even bring them to your awareness.
Do positive affirmations change negative beliefs?
Positive affirmations are useful but positive affirmations alone cannot change long-existing beliefs. If a person believes that they are worthless. Just saying 'I am worthy ' a few times wouldn't automatically change the belief of worthlessness. The energy level of negativity surpasses that of the positive.
According to research self-interrogation should precede positive affirmation. Self-interrogation opens you up to yourself through introspection. Questions are important because then you're in touch with yourself and your feelings, it sparks curiosity and the desire to answer the questions.
When you ask yourself the necessary questions (like the examples above) it becomes easier to counterattack with positive affirmations. The positive affirmation should be constantly repeated, believed, and visualized.
Here's the formula;
Self interrogation+ Positive affirmation = Updated belief
